Common questions.

Is Studio Plus free?

The editor is free and needs no account. It is a real timeline — many video and audio tracks, trims, keyframes, transitions, speed ramps, color grading, audio mixing and titles — and you can import and export as much as you like without paying anything. We are still building toward everything Premiere and Final Cut do. You can also connect your own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor account over MCP and have it do the editing, still without credits. Credits are only for the AI features that run in the cloud, like generating video, images or music.

What do credits pay for?

The AI work that happens on a server: generating video, images, music, voiceovers and sound effects, plus dubbing, upscaling and the AI assistant that edits with you. Anything that runs on your Mac — editing, effects, on-device captions and transcripts, export — costs nothing.

Do credits expire?

No. Credits stay in your account until you spend them, and they are still there if you cancel a subscription.

What happens when I run out of credits?

The cloud features pause until you top up. Your projects, your media and the rest of the editor keep working exactly as before.

How is this different from Final Cut Pro or Premiere?

It is the same kind of timeline: many tracks, trims, keyframes, transitions, color, real export. What is different is that generation and an AI assistant live inside it, so you can ask for a shot, or ask for a change to the cut, without leaving the project.

How is this different from Runway, Higgsfield or Veo?

Those make clips. Studio Plus is where clips become a video. Generation happens on the timeline, beside your own footage, so a shot can be re-rolled, trimmed, graded, scored and exported in one project instead of being downloaded and carried somewhere else.

Can I use my own footage?

Yes. Import your own video, photos and audio and mix them with generated clips on the same timeline. Plenty of edits never generate anything at all.

Which AI models can I use?

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Kimi can drive the editing. For generation there is Sora 2 Pro, Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0, Hailuo 2.3, Seedream 4.5, GPT Image 2, Lyria 3, ElevenLabs and more. Apple Intelligence handles the small jobs on your Mac. You choose the model each time, and the lineup keeps growing.

Can I use my own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor account?

Yes. Studio Plus runs a local MCP server, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and OpenAI's Codex can open your project and edit the timeline with the same tools the built-in assistant uses. Settings has a one-click button for each. Their thinking is billed to your own account, so editing this way costs no credits — generating video, images or audio still does, because a provider charges for that either way.

Does my footage stay on my Mac?

Your projects and media live on your Mac, not on our servers. Something is sent out only when you use a cloud AI feature, and only what that request needs. We never use your content to train AI models. More in the Privacy Policy.

What can I export?

MP4 in H.264 or HEVC, and ProRes 422 in a MOV, up to 4K at your project's frame rate. Audio on its own too. No watermark, and no limit on how much you export.

What do I need to run it?

An Apple Silicon Mac — M1 or later — running macOS 14 or newer. The on-device AI needs a recent macOS with Apple Intelligence available. There is no Windows, iPad or browser version.
